Evil Coffee-Rubbed Steak: Bold Flavor, Simple Perfection

At Evil Coffee, we believe coffee isn’t just for drinking—it’s for elevating everything, including your food.  Whether you’re firing up the grill after a long ride or simply cooking dinner for your gremlins, this recipe brings out rich, smoky flavors with a deep coffee crust that’s next-level delicious.

Why Use Coffee on Steak?

Coffee acts as a natural tenderizer, creating a flavorful crust that enhances the savory, umami goodness of a perfectly seared steak. Combined with a touch of brown sugar and spices, this rub caramelizes beautifully, locking in juicy, bold flavors with every bite.

Coffee-Rubbed Steak Recipe

Ingredients:

  • 2 ribeye or NY strip steaks
  • 2 tbsp Evil Coffee (finely ground as possible)
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1/2 tsp cayenne (optional for heat)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil

Instructions:

  1. Mix the rub – In a small bowl, combine the coffee, brown sugar, paprika, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and cayenne.
  2. Prep the steak – Pat the steaks dry and rub them with olive oil. Coat evenly with the coffee rub, pressing it into the surface.
  3. Let it rest – Allow the steaks to sit at room temperature for 30 minutes so the flavors can infuse.
  4. Fire it up – Heat a grill or skillet over medium-high heat. Cook the steaks for 4-5 minutes per side for medium-rare (adjust to your liking).
  5. Rest & serve – Let the steaks rest for 5 minutes before slicing. Enjoy with your favorite sides.
