Brew The Perfect Pour Over in 6 Simple Steps

Brew The Perfect Pour Over in 6 Simple Steps

There’s something about a pour over that pairs perfectly with a morning spent spinning wenches in the garage.

No rush. No noise. Just hot water, fresh coffee, killer tunes, a few minutes of focus, and a cup that actually tastes like you gave a damn.

For this brew, we’re using Parade Lap Medium Roast — smooth, balanced, and built for those mornings where you want something clean, easy-drinking, and dialed in.

What You’ll Need

  • Parade Lap Medium Roast
  • Pour-over brewer
  • Paper filter
  • Kettle
  • Mug or carafe
  • Grinder
  • Scale, if you have one
  • Timer, if you want to be exact

The Starting Ratio

A good place to start:

20 grams of coffee
320 grams of water

That gives you a clean, balanced cup without making things complicated.

No scale? Use about 3 tablespoons of ground coffee for a full mug.

Step 1: Grind Fresh

Grind Parade Lap to a medium-fine texture — somewhere between table salt and sand.

Too coarse, and the coffee tastes thin.
Too fine, and it gets bitter or slow.

Step 2: Rinse the Filter

Put your paper filter in the brewer and rinse it with hot water.

This removes paper taste and warms everything up. Dump the rinse water before brewing.

Step 3: Bloom the Coffee

Add your grounds, then pour just enough hot water to wet them evenly.

Let it sit for 30–45 seconds.

This is the bloom. It lets trapped gases escape and helps the coffee extract more evenly.

Step 4: Pour Slow Circles

After the bloom, pour slowly in small circles.

Start near the center, move outward, then come back in.

Don’t blast it. Don’t rush it. Keep the water moving steady and controlled.

Step 5: Let It Draw Down

The full brew should take around 2:45 to 3:30 minutes.

If it drains too fast, grind a little finer next time.
If it takes forever, grind a little coarser.

Step 6: Taste and Adjust

The perfect pour over isn’t about being fancy. It’s about paying attention.

If it tastes sour or weak, grind finer or use a little more coffee.
If it tastes bitter or harsh, grind coarser or use slightly cooler water.

Parade Lap shines when the cup is clean, smooth, and balanced — the kind of coffee that fills the first quiet part of the day before everything starts moving.

Brew it slow. Drink it hot & Get after it 🤘
